Shearer: Van Gaal´s time is up

Alan Shearer has hit out at Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal over his inability to build a winning team and has accused the Dutchman of letting his team play boring football.

United currently sit fifth in the Premier League table with seven points from four games and Shearer is not impressed with their performances so far this campaign, stressing that Saturday s match versus Liverpool is a must-win for the Old Trafford side.

I would argue Louis van Gaal cannot even afford to draw the game against Liverpool, Shearer writes for The Sun.

He has been asking for more time for his team to blend, for young players to develop etc. Time is up I m afraid the time is now.

You cannot oversee the changes he has made, backed by hundreds of millions, and …

Ramirez to be given Saints chance

Southampton F.C. manager Ronald Koeman is prepared to give midfielder Gaston Ramirez another chance to prove himself at St Mary s.

The Uruguay international, 24, joined the Saints from Italian Serie A side Bologna for a then club-record fee of £12 million in the summer of 2012.

However, Ramirez s three-year spell in Hampshire has been largely unsuccessful. The 24-year-old s last start for the Saints came on 12 April 2014 against Cardiff City.

But Ramirez came off the bench in Wednesday s 6-0 Capital One Cup rout of MK Dons, and Koeman has suggested more first-team opportunities could be on the horizon for the Uruguayan.

What s changed? What has changed is we passed the transfer window, the Koeman said. We had some injuries with some p…

Liverpool want Doucoure

According to reports in France, Liverpool are interested in the possibility of signing Abdoulaye Doucoure. The 25 year old Frenchman has come into his own in the last 18 months or so, and ever since joining from Rennes back in 2016, it has certainly felt like he s been on an upward trajectory towards the top of European football.

Liverpool already have a fantastic squad but there are certainly areas they could strengthen when it comes to squad depth, and it d be interesting to see how Doucoure fits into that equation. Alas, the Reds won t be the only team in the mix, with the report suggesting that Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain could also be interested.

Watford have their eyes set on a very realistic top half finish in the Premier League this season in the wake of a s…

Allegri backs Juventus for Champions League glory

Massimiliano Allegri believes Juventus have the required quality to win the Champions League after swatting aside Monaco 4-1 to reach the final.

Goals from Mario Mandzukic and the star of the tie Dani Alves were enough to see off the Ligue 1 leaders 2-1 at Juventus Stadium, backing up their win in the principality last week.

Captain Gianluigi Buffon said post-match that reaching the final would mean nothing without victory in Cardiff and Allegri too espoused the importance of seeing out a first treble by an Italian side since Jose Mourinho s Inter after being denied by Barca in 2015.

Gigi is right, we are in the final and must try to win it, Allegri told Mediaset Premium. Hopefully this is the right year. I think Juventus have a very good chance of winning.

´Outstanding´ Grealish learning he is not main man with Manchester City, says Dickov

Jack Grealish has made an impressive start as he adapts to life at Manchester City, according to the club s former striker Paul Dickov.

Ex-Aston Villa star Grealish signed for a British record £100million fee ahead of the 2021-22 season, bolstering an impressive group of playmakers in Pep Guardiola s squad.

Dickov believes the attacking midfielder has been given a run of games so that he learns the differences of playing at City, where he will not be the main man as he was with Villa.

And he has been happy with the England international s start at the club, with Grealish scoring twice and adding two assists across 10 appearances in all competitions.

Dickov told Stats Perform: No disrespect to Aston Villa, but there s a lot more quality in the squad at Ma…

Montreal Impact coach Henry not dwelling on poor Monaco spell

Thierry Henry is hoping to learn from his mistakes at Monaco after taking charge of MLS club Montreal Impact.

After assisting Roberto Martinez with Belgium, former Arsenal and Barcelona star Henry took up his first head coach role at Ligue 1 club Monaco in October 2018.

However, despite signing a three-year deal, Henry was dismissed in January, with his predecessor Leonardo Jardim coming in as his replacement.

Montreal, meanwhile, finished ninth in the Eastern Conference in 2019, with Wilmer Cabrera who only took charge in August not offered the chance to stay on as coach.

On his official unveiling as the Impact s new coach, Henry insisted he has put his poor spell at Monaco behind him and is hoping to prove his quality as a coach with Montreal, who wi…

Rangers´ lead cut after Caley stalemate

Rangers lead at the top of the Scottish Premier League was reduced to one point after Inverness Caledonian Thistle struck late to earn a 1-1 draw at Ibrox.

After their loss in the Old firm derby last weekend Celtic piled the pressure on their rivals as they defeated ten-men St Johnstone 3-0 in the early kick-off.

At Ibrox a superb strike from Maurice Edu early in the first-half looked to be enough to continue the Gers 100 per cent winning start to the season.

But despite chances to increase their lead it was substitute Eric Odhiambo who prodded home eight minutes from time as Inverness remain undefeated away from home since November 2009.

Rangers made four changes from their midweek League Cup win as Steven Naismith and Steven Whittaker were rested befor…

City concede Adebayor could move

Manchester City assistant coach David Platt has admitted Emmanuel Adebayor could leave Eastlands when the January transfer window opens.

The 26-year-old Togolese striker has found it found it hard to nail down a place in Roberto Mancini s starting 11, and has started just two English Premier League matches this term.

Adebayor joined City from Arsenal in a 25-million-pound deal in July 2009 and has scored 19 goals in that time, but he appears set to move away from Eastlands in a bid for more time on the park.

On Tuesday, he claimed to the Belgian press he would be moving to Italian giants Juventus when the transfer window opened. Without directly confirming those reports, Platt nonetheless said there was every chance Adebayor could be on his way out of the club.<…

Herrera pays Bilbao buy-out clause

Ander Herrera appears set to complete a move to Manchester United after paying his buy-out clause at Athletic Bilbao.

La Liga outfit Bilbao confirmed on Thursday that they had rejected a bid in the region of €36million for the highly-rated midfielder, who was a reported target for United 12 months ago.

However, it now seems certain that Herrera will switch to Old Trafford, after he paid the amount of compensation required to terminate his contract at San Mames.

A statement on Bilbao s official website read: The Football League (LFP) has certified Athletic Club that player Ander Herrera Aguera has fulfilled the requirements of the applicable regulations valid for unilateral termination of the employment contract that bound him to our club, by depositing today th…
