Ole Gunnar Solskjaer dismissed suggestions Edinson Cavani might have been sent off before his game-breaking turn in Manchester United s 2-0 EFL Cup quarter-final win over Everton.
Cavani fired in a fabulous 88th-minute strike from outside the penalty area before Anthony Martial made sure of a repeat of last season s semi-final against holders Manchester City.
Earlier in the second half, Cavani appeared to shove Everton defender Yerry Mina to the floor after grabbing at his throat, but referee Andy Madley opted not to dish out any punishment with VAR not in operation.
Solskjaer told Sky Sports he felt Uruguayan and Colombian rivalries were in play at that point in a keenly fought contest.
It’s two South Americans that have had a few battles before, he s…

England
Starting with the hosts, while a lacklustre first-half display at Wembley over the weekend might have left many disappointed, England really mounted what was an impressive comeback against heavyweight opposition. Coming from 1-0 down and landing a 2-1 victory against FIFA world number one s Belgium in the capital on Sunday, Gareth Southgate s men have found a route to top spot and appear to have put their sluggish start to proceedings behind them. Having to settle for a 0-0 stalemate when they made the trip across Europe to Denmark last month, the Three Lions have now landed back-to-back w…

And Ferguson was in buoyant mood ahead of Saturday s clash at Old Trafford, claiming his side do not worry about the threats Stoke possess.

Carlos Vela does not expect Real Sociedad to qualify for next season s Champions League despite enjoying a strong campaign in LaLiga.
The club last qualified for Europe s elite competition when finishing fourth in Spain s top flight in 2012-13, though three unremarkable seasons followed as they failed to consolidate their position at that level.
But this season under Eusebio Sacristan, the Basque club are threatening to reach those heights once again and they occupy fifth after 23 matches.
Nine-goal Willian Jose has been particularly impressive following his switch from Las Palmas, while Vela and homegrown talent Mikel Oyarzabal have impressed on the flanks.

Borussia Monchengladbach have completed the signing of Jonas Hofmann from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund, with the winger signing a contract until 2020.
Reports in Germany suggest the transfer fee for the 23-year-old will be worth around €8 million.
Hofmann has struggled to establish himself as a Dortmund first-team regular since signing in 2011 and has started only four Bundesliga matches this season, scoring once against Bayer Leverkusen in September.
He had a loan spell with Mainz last season, but injuries restricted him to 10 league appearances and three goals.
Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl said: The addition of Jonas Hofmann will help compensate for the loss of wingers to injury during the second half of the season.
